Kind comments from people I have sold Martin Doyle flutes to:
- Mar. 2007: “Hi Shardul, the flute (Doyle ‘traditional style’ in African Blackwood) was delivered this morning… It looks and sounds beautiful. It’s an added bonus that it has my name so prominently stamped on the front.
Thanks for the excellent service, Ken Doyle.” – Texas, USA. - April, 2007: “I love, I love, I love my Martin Doyle Flute!!! (Doyle ‘Celtic style’ in African Blackwood with no tuning slide)” – Premik Russell Tubbs, NY, USA.
- “Hi Shardul. Love the Kiwicelt site – great job! I hope many more people around the world will end up playing Martin’s flutes. He is my personal favourite modern flute maker and general guru. I changed from a top of the range 150 year old Besson flute to one of Martin’s Celtic style flutes, which I much prefer. I only ever use the old one when I need to use keys, which is very rarely! Well done, Ronan Browne.” – Ireland.
- April. 2005: “Hi Shardul - My KiwiCelt flute is BEAUTIFUL!! It looks great, sounds amazing and I love it. (Celtic style flute in native NZ Pohutukawa wood) As a concert flute player I was a bit sceptical as to if I could play it and what to play on it. However with your help and the great links on your playing help page, I am doing well. The tone is so different from a conventional metal flute and it is lovely play for a change – Irish music sounds so much better on a wooden flute. My students are fascinated by it!! Thanks Shardul for all your help in getting the right instrument for me. And it is great to own such a fine instrument made of New zealand native timber!! Sarah Helleur.” – flute player and teacher in Christchurch, New Zealand.
- Mar. 2005: “Dear Shardul, I have received the flute (Celtic style flute in native NZ Pohutukawa wood) last week but I had too many work to try it successfully and in a sufficient domestical comfort. First of all, the wood is wonderfull and very delicate. It sounds really good and equal deepness and also simplicity. I am here now with my very first impressions and I will tell you more with my better and progressive “maestria” of the instrument. Best wishes, Michel Feuerbach.” – France.
- Mar. 2005: “Hi Shardul, I’m ecstatic about my new flute (Traditional style keyless flute in African Blackwood) – and the flute stand! The workmanship of the flute is fantastic and it’s so easy to make a tune. Thank you also for the flute stand – a work of art in itself. Greg Stockwell.” – Auckland, New Zealand.
- Jan. 2005: “Shardul, my wife loves the flute. (Celtic style flute in native NZ Pohutukawa wood) She has a lot of experience with reed instruments and listening to her progress with the flute has been fun. The dog only howled at her for the first day or two. She is getting much better at it and plays as an unwinding at the end of a long day. Stephen.” – Texas, USA.
- Oct. 2004: “Thank you very much Shardul, for the fantastic flute. (Traditional style keyless flute in Cocus wood) I have never enjoyed playing as much as I do now. The tone is lovely, rich and strong. I have also found it very easy to play compared to my old flute. It’s a truly beautiful instrument. Thanks also for being so very helpful and great to deal with – I hope to meet you in person sometime. All the best, Karen Reid.” – Arrowtown, New Zealand.
- Feb. 2004: “Hi there Shardul. I have finally entered this great site. I would like to say how much I enjoy my Martin Doyle flute! The tone is just beautiful and certainly brings joy, not just to me when I play, but also to those that are listening. Great for using with meditation. I knew as soon as I first touched my Red Beech Celtic flute that I would eventually own it, it was certainly worth it! Thanks Martin! Lyn.” – Muriwai, New Zealand.
- Feb. 2004: “After hearing the amazing tone and power of the Irish flute a year or so ago, I felt inspired to learn to play one. Without really knowing what to look for, I acquired a lovely used keyless flute made of Maple wood. (Nice – as I’m Canadian!) Turns out to be a Martin Doyle Celtic style flute, which was ironic, as the first flute I heard was also a Doyle. Anyway, within an hour I was able to get a couple of simple tunes out of it. The flute practically played itself! This fantastic ease of play is a credit to the makers skill and talent. I have since played a number of Martin’s flutes and found them all easy to play and they look as beautiful as they sound. The world of flute music is indeed fortunate to have a craftsman of Martin’s standard whose love of the old ways and willingness to experiment are bound to keep the Irish flute alive and prospering for a long time to come. I am glad that Martin has the support of this website – well done! Best of luck to you both and to all those like me who play and love these great flutes. O – and parents – gentle airs on wooden flutes are great for soothing young kids! Thanks, Mark Royden.” – Auckland, New Zealand.
- Feb. 2004: “Hi Shardul. As a complete beginner in playing the flute I was a little afraid to begin with and prepared to face an ‘beginners struggle period’ during my first attempts. Instead, Martin’s flute is providing me ‘daily harmony moments’ that I’ve been seeking for so long. It is so much easier to forget respiration problems if even the first tentative sounds compensate for them! I just love my flute and hopefully Martin knows how thankful I am to him! Yours, Judit Kuti.” – Hungary.
- Jan. 2004: “Dear Shardul, I am really glad that Martin has promotion on the internet. When he first came to Hungary, I had the opportunity to try one of his flutes and it was flute-love at first sight. They are so beautiful, with such wonderful tone! I think that when Martin makes these flutes, he gives not just his knowledge and know-how, but his spirit too! That is what I feel every time I have my flute in my hands. Regards, Dora Apatini.” – Hungary.
- Nov. 2003: “Dear Shardul, everyone loves the sound of this Doyle Kowhai flute. It’s an attention getter for sure and everyone who hears it wants to try it out. And it looks fantastic. Thanks for your help and for making this happen. Best Wishes, Al Petty.” – Massachusetts, USA.
- Dec. 2003: “The instrument (Traditional style keyless flute in African Blackwood with tuning slide) is developing a nice tone, which is improving with age, so imagine 20 years hence! As for the quality - very pleasing and well made. Regards, Simon Reedman” – Auckland, New Zealand.
- Nov. 2003: “Greetings from Hawaii. Finally home and have time to chill and write (plus get some serious practice happening). Thank you for sending this lovely flute, (Celtic style flute in native NZ Kowhai wood) which caught up with me in Singapore. The travelling was killing my guitar, so I can leave it here now and take the flute. This instrument is a great relax and de-stress tool. Fantastic sound and so natural! I wish I had found one years ago. And the wood is (I still can’t say the name yet) really beautiful. Everyone comments on that. Dude, thanks for making this happen. Aloha, Sunny Browne.” – Honolulu, Hawaii.
- Jun. 2002: “Thanks for dropping off the flutes. (Celtic style flutes in native NZ Tawa & Tanekaha wood) We’re both totally stoked!! What great tone. They’re easier to play than we thought they’d be and look like works of art. Everyone loves them. Please congratulate the maker for us. Thanks heaps, Chris & Shapathanal.” – Auckland, New Zealand.
- Nov. 2001: “Hi Shardul, my new flute (Celtic style flute in native NZ Black Maire wood) is bringing me considerable pleasure. It’s nice to have an instrument that plays this well and is made of our native wood. It looks lovely. Thanks for the care instruction also; very helpful. Yours, Ross.” – Waiheke Island, New Zealand.
- Oct. 2001: “I have been playing the classical flute since I was 5 years old but when I first heard the wooden flute in Ireland, I immediately decided to buy one! (Celtic style flute in native NZ Black Maire wood) I really enjoy the deep, smooth, earthy tones that the wooden flute produces. The sound carries an ancient, haunting feeling. I find that I can put so much more expression, beauty and subtlety into the music on the wooden flute than I could on the concert flute. Regards, Phoolanjaya.” – Dunedin, New Zealand.
